Bridges Signs Agreements with U.S. Military

January 29, 2002

Kelowna, BC - Bridges.com Inc. (TSE: BIT), North America's leading provider of career and educational planning solutions, announces the signing of two agreements with the U.S. military.

The first agreement is a 52-site Choices CT renewal contract with the U.S. Total Army Personnel Command (PERSCOM). Through this resubscription, Bridges Choices CT career planning resource is being used by soldiers making the transition from the U.S. military to the civilian workplace at army bases throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico, Italy, Germany, Korea and Japan. Revenue from this annual agreement is $45,500 U.S.

"With 52 sites currently using our resources in the U.S. military, we see this as an excellent platform for providing the remaining 536 military installations -- and 2.5 million people -- with our products and services," says Claude Lapointe, Vice President Corporate Sales and Strategic Initiatives for Bridges. "More than 90,000 U.S. Army soldiers make the transition to the civilian workforce yearly, and we feel access to our resource would be of great assistance to them."

Steve Orcutt, Information Management Officer for ACAP, Army Career & Alumni Program (a division of PERSCOM) finds Choices CT a useful product:

"We use Choices CT for transition assistance for soldiers who are leaving the service," says Orcutt. "Choices CT provides our soldiers with good career advice and helps our counsellors to do their jobs better. We particularly like that part of Choices where you can fill out the skills inventory and find out the wide range of jobs that you are qualified for with your current skills. We believe helping our soldiers transition is part of the personnel life cycle. Just like we recruit to get them in (to the military), we also help transition them back into the (civilian) workforce with Choices."

Bridges has also signed its first military contract with the National Guard in the state of Maine to allow Maine's Army and Air National Guard recruiters to use Choices CT. The company's sales strategy will be to leverage this initial sale broadly throughout the U.S. military recruiter market.

This new initiative in Maine -- with national implications for Bridges -- enables all 25 Army and Air National Guard recruiters in Maine to use Bridges' Choices CT when providing career development advice. Revenue from this annual subscription product in Maine is $7,500 U.S.

"This agreement signed with Maine is a very exciting start for us in the U.S. military market, and it builds on the success we have had serving military markets in Canada," says Doug Manning, Chief Executive Officer and President of Bridges. "With this new initiative working well in Maine, we see opportunities for the other thousands of recruiters stationed around the United States. This is another example of how our products adapt and appeal to organizations and all age groups outside of the K to 12 market."

There are approximately 20,000 recruiters working in all aspects of the United States forces: Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines and National Guard, including 3,300 in the National Guard alone.

The Army and Air National Guard in Maine saw Choices CT as a great tool for recruiters:

"Basically we saw this as a great opportunity to give the recruiting community the same tools that school counsellors have so that they can let their potential recruits make the connection between what they are looking for in a Guard career or job and how that's going to impact their job in the community after they complete their military service," said Denis Fortier, Command Chief Master Sergeant of the Maine Air National Guard.

"We think Choices CT is the best product out there," said Fortier. "It meets a need out there in the community of folks who are looking for career development information. Our recruiters are now using the same resource (Choices CT) that the schools in Maine are using."

Bridges' Claude Lapointe will head this new military market initiative. The Corporate Sales and Strategic Initiatives team is responsible for driving new business in areas like the military, public libraries, correctional institutions and corporate sales.

"We see a good opportunity for Bridges in the U.S. military market," says Lapointe. "We'll start working with the Army and Air National Guard recruiters in Maine and plan to expand to the other states where our products are being used in a majority of high schools.

"Our products can easily be adapted for military and corporate markets without any significant investment," explains Lapointe. "We're expanding into a new arena without reinventing the wheel. This market has tremendous potential and we're at the right time and the right place to do it."
