Bridges to Provide Career Services to AARP Members
New partnership yields opportunity to serve 34 million members of AARP October 24, 2001 KELOWNA, B.C. -- Bridges.com Inc. (TSE: BIT) is pleased to announce an agreement with Drake Beam Morin (DBM) -- the world's leading provider of outplacement and career transition services -- to offer career management services to AARP members. AARP, (formerly the American Association of Retired Persons), is the largest membership organization of its kind in the world, with over 34 million members. It provides a very broad and growing range of services to individuals in midlife and later years. Through a seamless connection between AARP and DBM Web sites, this agreement will provide members of AARP with access to Bridges' eChoices program to assist them with job and career transitions. The service is provided on a discounted fee-for-service basis. The agreement was spurred in large measure by demographic trends which indicate that over the next 15 years, baby boomers are projected to enter the 45- to 64-year age cohort at a rate three to four times faster than the growth rate of the population as a whole.i Most demographers and economists are in agreement that this trend will be the most significant development to affect the economy in the first several decades of the new millennium.ii As a group, the baby boom generation are healthier, better educated, more youth-oriented, more career oriented, and have more opportunities than their parents ever had.iii Many retire from one job or career only to embark on another. Others decide to pursue their passion in areas totally unrelated to what they have been doing in the past. Still others, delaying their first retirement, intend to remain fully engaged in the job market.iv "We are leveraging our market-leading career planning resources to enter new markets," said Doug Manning, Chief Executive Officer and President of Bridges. "This agreement is an example of the potential in our strategic partnership with DBM. With this eChoices initiative, the partnership with DBM provides a framework that allows us to even further extend our market reach and offer career development solutions to individuals in later stages of their career transitions." The combined services to be offered by DBM and Bridges represent a comprehensive proprietary package of career-related services available on the Internet.
