Bridges.com and Peterson's to Co-Produce First-Ever
eGuidance Center for U.S. High Schools
Over 20,000 U.S. secondary schools targeted for eGuidance Centers.Bridges and Peterson's see the need for parental involvement in children's career and educational planning. September 4, 2001 KELOWNA, B.C. -- Bridges.com Inc. (TSE: BIT) -- North America's leading provider of career and educational planning solutions -- is pleased to announce an agreement with Peterson's, a Thomson Learning Company, to co-develop an online eGuidance Center designed for over 20,000 U.S. secondary schools. Peterson's, headquartered in New Jersey, is the leading provider of college reference guides and books in the U.S. "We have designed the eGuidance Center to enable schools to include parents in their post-secondary prep programs for students," explains Doug Manning, Chief Executive Officer and President of Bridges. "With school counsellors having a 1-to-600 ratio of counsellor-to-students, it is very useful to involve the one-to-one relationship between parents and their children. Schools also benefit, as the center will be localized with specific school information and can be funded by local or national sponsors." The eGuidance Center offers Bridges the opportunity to increase its average revenue per school through the sale of new products and the introduction of a sponsorship program for new resources. "Bridges has over 30 per cent of the secondary school market accessing our products," says Manning. "Working with Peterson's, we plan to identify college and/or corporate sponsors who have a vested interest in the quality of career and educational resources in the schools. Additionally, we see the opportunity to enlist local sponsors of eGuidance Centers for their community's schools." The eGuidance Center will be rolled out as a demo site in late September with a unified product set for release in early January. The two companies will be working together to co-develop and co-sell the eGuidance Center, which will provide a "one-stop shop" for Bridges' and Peterson's market-leading products and services such as career and college planning guidance, test preparation, and financial aid information. Mary Gatsch, Executive Vice President of Peterson's, says the two companies are very complementary. She adds, "Bridges' Choices and CX Online resources are already used in over 30 per cent of secondary schools in our country. Their sales force, career specialists, and customer support teams enable us to take the eGuidance Center quickly to thousands of schools and families. This is why we think the two companies are a good match." This new program aligns with the Bush administration's No Child Left Behind education initiative, which gives parents more choices about the kind of education their children receive and what educational institution they attend. The goal of both Bridges and Peterson's is to help schools become more successful with their career and educational development programs and to excite students by helping them plan their future and the courses they will be taking. Manning is excited about the partner Bridges has signed for this venture and the possibilities presented by this opportunity. "Peterson's is the premier provider of educational reference guides to U.S. schools. Their outstanding college content, test prep tools, and educational planning resources are an excellent combination with our suite of career planning tools." Gatsch added, "We are pleased to be part of the first venture to enable parents to have access to the best resources that guide the decisions they and their children are being asked to make."
